GBH Year 2002

This year I decided to do the London Marathon ( well ,got the chance of a golden ticket ie raise £1,500 and get in free )

JAN 2002
I started running in the dark with a torch after work and had built up to 12 mile run at the weekend and about 10 split through the week but running with a torch and in darkness is not nice .

FEB 2002
I was running for 2 hrs at the weekend and had started to swim again

MARCH 2002
I had my first competition of the year at the Roding Valley half marathon http://barkingroadrunners.org.uk/pdf/rodingvalleyhalf2002.pdf as it was recommended to do a half marathon a month before the real thing. well it went great i did the 13.1 miles in 1hr 48mins and was dead chuffed i thought i was on for a 3:15-3:30 hr marathon. During this month we also took a week in Majorca at short notice which was dead cheap and good fun weather was changeable but hey we got abroad. by the end of march i had a chest cold and missed some training and boy did that hurt

APRIL 2002
On the 14th (a day after my wife Suzys birthday) did the london Marathon - pain is in the mind - the body is weak - nothing I have ever experienced is like a marathon http://www.london-marathon.co.uk/ (look in 2002 then search lastname hearn or bib 33529) not impressed with my time of 5hrs.09 but i finished and i did not walk ( well did a stiff legged douglas barder kind of marathon walk to rest up a bit but i did not stop.) I ran with a neighbour and was doing fine upto 10K then i pulled my knee and the rest was just unpleasant

MAY 2002
On the 12th (Lucys Birthday) we took the whole weekend and went up to alton towers on the Sat (me and lucy did Oblivion and as a family we all did AIR) and stayed in a hotel then on the Sunday i did my 2nd Triathlon in Stratford-Upon-Avon only the Novice one 200Mtr swim / 23K Bike /

So i was dead chuffed 10 mins off last years time coool

JUNE 2002
I heard about a new job where I could become a scumbag contractor and hopefully learn more as they really utillise control-m , Also  i did lots of rowing at the gym and some running, got my rowing down to sub 7 minutes for 2000mtrs again.

JULY 2002
Well I was up for the British 10K having done it last year but that was on our Wedding Aniversary so it would have been too much as most of my events were on or near special occasions this year so I did the JP-Morgan/chase manhatten challeng which is just a 5 miler round Battersea Park only about 35-40 mins http://www.chasecc.com/races/lon/lonres02.htm then Toughguy at the end of july http://www.toughguy.co.uk/Welcome-to-Tough-Guy.htm THIS HAS TO BEE SEEN TO BE BELIEVED i have done this for the last 3 years now and have improved on my time each year which is quite hard as they change the course and make it hard , really its just a 6-8 mile x-country run though mud and horrors then 2 laps of a mile and a half assault course which all takes place in Wolverhampton the first year i did it i just drove up by myself and did it then the next year Suzy and Lucy came with me to see if I was bullshitting about the whole experience ( which had me raptured for weeks after my first experience) this year I did it alone again and got my best time ever just under 2hrs 40mins

AUGUST  2002
On the 12th I started my new job ,they took me on as a contractor on a daily rate. Thus ended all fitness for the year as long hours and lot to learn take their toll on you.

DECEMBER 2002
Got the First itch to get fit again i have been too cerebral and lot fit for too long and winter Toughguy is in Jan 28th, Suzy got me a chin up bar i have been after for ages and i have started doing sit-ups again it will be running next

JANUARY 2003
Now I am afraid, My First Winter Toughuy. Wolverhampton is not a very pretty place and is not known for its sunshine (sorry Woverhampton people) but a Winter toughguy is it has to be said SECOND only to the London marathon in my opinion and the cold up there is .. well , actually we got a sunny day but the water events were the worst and most painfull thing i have ever done todate that water was icey and when you had to be totally submerged in it well it freeze's your brain but hey once your wet and over it a bit, the world is a little less frightening and nothing else seems so bad. Still a few hours running though the woods, Elephants Graveyard etc and then the assault course itself well I may do another but thankfully these things are only once a year........
